Food scraps and yard debris comprise 28 percent of the solid waste generated in the United States (U.S. EPA, 2011). Many people are surprised that the largest category of waste being thrown away is food residuals–over 21 percent of the total! Instead of discarding food waste down sink drains or in the garbage, you can easily turn it into a valuable soil amendment for your landscape, garden and lawn.
