4-H Leadership Award – The award value depends on available funds and will vary from year to year and plaque.

Eligible for Nomination of Award: 4-H Agents, Program Associates, Specialists, and CED.

Criteria: Applicants must have a minimum of ten (10) years of outstanding and achievement.

 How to Apply: Describe achievements of the nominee and why he/she should be considered for the award. Be specific regarding accomplishments and impacts. Items you may wish to address include.

  1. How the applicant has:
  • Demonstrated exemplary leadership for the County, District, and/or State 4-H  Youth Development Program.
  • Gone above & beyond the “call of duty”.
  • Encourages excellence and teamwork among his/her colleagues, volunteers and youth.
  • Recognition of leadership ability of the applicant by others in the county.
  • Significant contributions or changes he/she has made in the County 4-H Youth Development Program.
  1. List the name and address of your local newspaper for press release notification.
  2. Reference LettersApplicants will also be required to submit 2 letters of recommendation.

    One of the reference letters must be from the applicant’s immediate supervisor.

                                                                        

The Dr. R. Marshall and Mrs. Jan Stewart 4-H Leadership Award was established by Associate Director, Department Head, and State 4-H Leader, Dr. Marshall Stewart and his wife Jan to recognize an outstanding 4-H professional (4-H Agent, 4-H Program Assistant, 4-H Program Associate, or 4-H Specialist) who has demonstrated excellence as a tenured professional of 10 years or more.

Dr. Stewart was named Department Head of the Department of 4-H Youth Development and State 4-H Leader in 2005. In July 2006, the Departments of 4-H Youth Development and Family and Consumer Sciences were merged and Dr. Stewart was named Associate Director of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service. In January 2014, Dr. Stewart was named Special Assistant to the Dean of College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and Director of College Leadership and Strategy. The Stewarts are committed to enhancing the 4-H youth development profession and have established this award to recognize those who have provided exemplary leadership for the profession.

All county employees of NCCE whose major job responsibility is 4-H youth development work are encouraged to apply. County Extension Directors who have nurtured leadership in their 4-H staff may also apply.
