October Halloween Project Instruction Video

Pay attention to the LED leads. One is short (-) and one is long (+). Current flows from positive (+) to negative (-). The current will leave the battery and flow through the circuit taking the fastest route.

Simple Circuits Supplies

  • The Doorbell Circuit is the most difficult. Consider doing it last. The buzzer has tiny leads. You can strip off more of the insulation to expose more wire. Finger pressure on the copper tape at the connecting point helped us complete the circuit.
  • The Flap Tab Switch – You may use the index card to cut out your switch and tape it to the pattern or you may do as Matthew did in the video and cut the pattern, folding the flap switch up to complete the circuit.
  • Parallel Circuit – Pay attention to the LED leads. One is short and one is long. Current flows from positive (+) to negative (-). The current will leave the battery and flow through the circuit taking the fastest route. In this circuit, the current will split and the 2 LEDs will share the power. (see How-to & Troubleshooting video 3:01)
  • Traffic Light – This has a flap for the battery connector (see How-to & Troubleshooting video 2:55) This consists of 3 simple series circuits that are completed as the paper clip is moved to close each circuit in turn.
  • Lamp – This is a simple series circuit with a clicker switch and an LED.

More Paper Circuit troubleshooting tips:

  • There is only one battery so you will need to share it among projects. To attach the battery roll a bit of copper with the adhesive side out and ensure it is connected to the circuit. (How-to & Troubleshooting video 1:15)
  • Make sure the connections are tight. When the power is flowing use finger pressure to help the copper make contact.
  • Attaching the adhesive copper foil (How-to & Troubleshooting video 0:10) If the copper foil is wrinkled you may need to pull it off and apply a smoother strip. Wrinkled copper will create more resistance than our little batteries have power. If you are able to miter the corners (How-to & Troubleshooting video 0:59) otherwise cut it at the corner and be sure it overlaps enough to complete the circuit.
  • The lights have different sized leads. Make sure you have them oriented correctly. (How-to & Troubleshooting video 3:04)
