Collapse ▲Franklin County Seed Library
Franklin County Public Library is working with N.C. Cooperative Extension, Franklin County Center to start a seed library. We need your help with the following:
- Donating excess seeds. If you have excess seed or seed that is a year or two old, please bring it to Franklin County Cooperative Extension office and let us take it off your hands. We will ensure it goes to good use.
- Identifying local heirloom varieties and donating heirloom seed. We don`t know of any heirloom varieties that are unique to this region but if you do we want to know about them. We would love for the the library to be a seed repository for the regions agricultural heritage. The only problem is we don`t know of any local heirloom varieties. If you know of any please let us know and if possible bring us some of the seeds.
- Participate when it opens. We want you to participate in this resource. Take advantage of free seeds of different types. Save your seeds and bring some back and donate it to the seed library. Find unique (non invasive) seeds when you travel and donate them to the library for the whole community to enjoy. Tell others about this resource so that they can participate.

Introduction to Aquaponics and Hydroponics
An Introduction to Aquaponics and Hydroponics with speakers Steve Gabel, N.C. Cooperative Extension Area Specialized Agent for Aquaculture, and Leigh Dodd, of the Greenhouse Company of South Carolina, will be offered Thursday, February 15, at 5 p.m., at the Franklin County Extension Center Annex,103 S. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg. Registration is required. Register online by February 12th.

Each year, Small Farms Week highlights the programs and activities conducted by Cooperative Extension at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University that support limited resource, small-scale, part-time and alternative-enterprise farmers. Learn about Small Farms Week.
Southern Piedmont Climate Smart Project
Rodale Institute, in partnership with a team of twelve universities, farming NGOs and consulting firms is working with vegetable farmers and farmers markets in the southern Piedmont to promote the adoption of climate-smart farming practices.
The project, “Quantifying the Potential to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Increase Carbon Sequestration by Growing and Marketing Climate Smart Commodities in the Southern Piedmont,” is part of an historic multibillion-dollar investment by the USDA. Heirs Property
North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University has joined with NC State University to lead a statewide effort to increase knowledge about heirs property. This platform will provide educational training, outreach, materials and resources, regarding heirs property issues, to help property owners protect and preserve land in North Carolina that their families have held for generations.
